The Environment

As a group we had long discussions over where the mine was situated. When reading the backstory developed by Andy there was  clear indication that the mine was located in a hostile environment on another planet. We had to decide on what form this planet would take. Would the planet be a jungle world or a desert one with vast expanses of open ground or would there be sand dunes as far as the eye could see. Would the atmosphere be hostile filled with smog, smoke and dust. We also talked about a mountainous environment that is extremely difficult to traverse without the use of air vehicles. These were things we needed to consider as the surrounding environment would have a direct impact on the mine itself. The mine itself could appear to be a stand alone building or it could be integrated with the environment.

I gathered a few images of the internet to explore different landscapes. I also noticed when collecting the images for research that the colour of the landscapes changed depending on where the photographs were taken.

The first group of images are various photographs of the himalayas and the alps. The images themselves give a completely different feel. These mountainous regions are as equally treacherous as their desert counterparts with jagged rocks and slippery surfaces.

The second set of images are photographs taken in Utah that I found on the internet. The images depict the harsh environment and barren wastelands with the odd rocky outcrop.
